Hargeisa (Horn Digest) – Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro has vowed to modernize the nation’s armed forces, equipping them with advanced technology and enhancing their training capabilities.
During a meeting with top military brass on Saturday, President Irro outlined his vision for a robust and well-equipped military. “My administration is committed to establishing a national defense force capable of safeguarding Somaliland’s territorial integrity,” he stated. “This includes securing our land, air, and maritime borders.”
The president emphasized the importance of a strong military for a sovereign nation. He reiterated his campaign promise to significantly increase the salaries of military personnel, stating that this process is already underway.
Furthermore, President Irro announced plans to overhaul military laws, establish an air force and a reserve force, and integrate the civilian forces that emerged during recent conflicts in eastern Somaliland.
